Hi all,
Here is my latest painting. It has an acrylic underpainting with soft pastels on top and measures 12 x 16 inches on Arches hot pressed watercolor paper. This image was provided by the wonderful photos of Lockstock on deviantart. Love to hear what you think.

Hi all,
This is my take on a painting by Colin Turner. It's 12 x 16 inches on Arches hotpressed watercolor paper with acrylic. Found it to be a fun exercise.

Well here is my first attempt at a horse painting. I realize that there are some anatomical errors, but it's really a figurative painting so I don't care too much. I wanted to go bold today and hopefully I pulled it off. Tell me what you think..

Hi,
This painting (Sea Dog) is acrylic and was done on stretched canvas that is 18 x 24 inches in size. I wanted to capture the solitude of the moment. The dog is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, but it's so small it's hard to tell. Hope you like it.

Amber

"3 Bullies" a CD Artwork

I am so excited to share that my painting "Beatrice" of a Great Dane won the prestigous Acrylics Art Online Competition! This is a competition where you are voted on by your fellow 500 artists and she won Grand Prize! Just thought I share the good news! Go here to see it and the rest of the winners.

Here is another one in my water series. It's called "Reflections" and measures 16 x 12 inches in size. It is an acrylic painting. I did this one this morning while it was still cool in my studio (don't have air conditioning out there) so I think the heat is the reason why I am attracted to painting water. Hope you enjoy.

I decided to do another painting of my Austin on his back but in a different direction today to complement the first http://amberlowe.com/joy.shtml painting. It's acrylic and oil pastel on stretched canvas that measures 24 x 18 inches in size. I wanted the backgrounds to be similar but a little different from each other. Let me know what you think.

I guess I have gotten on a floral kick because here is the latest painting of poppies. It measures about 14 x 10 inches in size and was done with acrylic and oil pastel. Well I decided to take a detour from dog art to do a little floral painting. This is an Iris that was done on Arches Hot pressed watercolor paper with acrylics, oil pastels, and colored pencils. It measures 12 x 16 inches in size and is available for sale. I hope you enjoy it and let me know if you would like me to do more florals.

"Moondoggie" is a German Shepherd I photographed at my local dog park. He was so busy checking everything out I couldn't get a photo of his face! The painting was done on canvas board and measures 14 x 18 inches in size. It was done with acrylics and oil pastels. I am trying to push my artwork to new levels which is why you are seeing different approaches to my work. Let me know what you think.

This big fellow is Sirius a Saint Bernard. Saint Bernards come in two types of coats smooth (which is what Sirius is) and rough (longer hair.) Meet Mickey, a Vizsla. Mickey was done with acrylic on a canvas panel measuring 18 x 24 inches in size. Initially I wanted to play up a warm color scheme with just little spots of cool relief, but I found the dog just melted into the background too much that I had to turn up the cool a good bit. The 'quilted' background was an idea I had that I have been wanting to try out. Hope you enjoy it.

“Ronin” is my lastest painting featuring a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or (CKCS). It was done on canvas board measuring 20 x 16 inches and is all acrylic. The original photo was of him sitting bored on his grooming table at a dog show and he still has that expectant look in the painting I think (just a more interesting background to me.) People always ask if I plan out my backgrounds and I can say almost always no. I have no idea what I am going to do and I paint until it just works for me. I like the abstract quality of the background compared to the sort of realism of the dog. I hope you enjoy it and if you like to see a larger version, go to the page http://amberlowe.com/ronin.shtml and click on the painting to see. Thanks for stopping by!

Meet Potter the Papillon, which is one of my favorite breeds. The art company Jack Richeson asked me to try out their new Stephen Quiller Acrylics and I used them to paint this. This was done on canvas board measuring 16 x 12 inches in size. I liked the new acrylics very much. They went on very smooth, were easy to mix, colors were nice and strong, and had a really good open time. If you have any questions about the new acrylics feel free to ask away. I will do my best to answer them. Anyway I hope you like the new piece.

Well I find myself these past few nights waking up in the middle in the night then going to my easel and starting to paint. What causes these trips I don’t know, but at least they are productive. “Rosie” is a Brussels Griffon (like the dog from “As Good As It’s Get’s” with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt. It was painted on 16 x 20 inch canvas board with acrylics and oil pastels. I found the background to be a challenge with the dog’s coloring, but I think we got there in the end. This painting is available for sale. To learn more go to http://amberlowe.com/rosie.shtml

“Nugget” was just adopted from rescue from my one of my favorite clients who has a very big heart. It was done on Art Spectrum colorfix paper measuring 9 x 12 inches in size using acrylic, oil pastel, and colored pencils. I just love painting this breed for their big expressive eyes and ears with a tiny nose. Just too cute.

Hi again. Well this is Beatrice the Great Dane. It is an acrylic and oil pastel painting on 18 x 24 inch canvas board. Initially this painting started very proper and plain, but my greater need to push the boundaries reared it’s ugly head and hence is the result. I love to hear what you think about it. "Red Jacket" is my second human portrait. It is on canvas board measuring 16 x 20 inches in size and is acrylic. I am pretty happy with this painting as it is a huge improvement from my first portrait (and no you won't see it LOL.) This is a birthday gift to my mother.

"Toby" a Tibetan Terrier

Meet my other 'brother' Toby. I had promised my mother that I would do a portrait of him for her. I decided to try something different and painted this in oils. I have to say that I really think I prefer working with acrylics, but I am still willing to give it a chance again. This painting was done on stretched canvas measuring 12 x 16 inches in size.

"Gryff" a Bull Terrier

"Gryff" a Bull Terrier is an acrylic painting measuring 24 x 18 inches in size. Yes I know I usually do acrylic and oil pastel together, but I was in the mood for a change. I have a larger photo that can ve view here if you want a better view. This is a painting of a dog I co-bred named Gryff (English, Canadian, American, Mexican Ch Corsaire Chrome Hoss of Tearock, ROM) and I am very proud of him. "Joy" features my Bull Terrier Austin doing one of his favorite activities; rolling around on his back! He looks so joyful when he does this that I named the painting "Joy". Well here is my next installment in my farm series; a goat! This was done with acrylic and oil pastel and painted on Arches Hotpressed watercolor paper measuring 18 x 12 inches in size. Actually I am not quite sure how I feel about this painting in regard to whether I am satisfied with it or not. Guess I will just have to sit on it for a while and see what kind of feedback it gets. I realize the composition isn't very exciting, but I was limited in the amount of reference photos for a painting.

"To the Market" Pigs

"To the Market" featuring pigs is my second painting in my farm series. I really liked the play of light and shadows in the painting. I named it "To the Market" because it reminded me of pigs being transported in truchs with those slits of light coming through. A little morbid, but that's what it reminded me of. It's on Arches Hot pressed watercolor paper primed with Art Specturm colorfix primer. It measures 12 x 18 inches in size and is acrylic and oil pastel.

"Sun Up" a Rooster

"Sun Up" is a first in a farm series I decided to do. I wanted to prove to myself that I could still paint other things besides dogs lol <g>. "Mac 3" is another portrait of Mac the chihuahua loved and owned by the Marino family. It was done on Art Spectrum colorfix paper and measures 12 x 9 inches in size. It is acrylic and oil pastel. This painting was another commission of Mac and I believe that the more portraits I do of him, the better I have a grasp on his look and personality. Well this time around it's a Staffordshire Bull Terrier I named "Duke". "Duke" is an acrylic / oil pastel mixed media painting. It measures 24 x 18 inches and was done on Arches Hot pressed watercolor paper. I had fun doing this painting and the background just sort of evolved on it's own.

"Nitsa" a Borzoi

Well, I went to the Atlanta Dog Show in February and got some reference photos for some paintings. When I visited the Italian Greyhound ring I got this shot and just couldn't resist doing a painting of it Valentine's Day themed. It's called "Pretty N Pink" and was done on Arches Hot pressed watercolor paper and measures 18 x 24 inches in size. I am uploaded this a little late, but at least you still get to see it!

My Bull Terrier, Austin

Well here is a acrylic painting of my wonderful Bull Terrier and best friend, Austin. It measures 18 x 24 inches and was done on Arches Hot pressed watercolor paper. I really wanted to explore with the brindle color and bring out the colors in it.

Well here is another commission piece of an adorable senior mixed breed named Sheena. It's a mixed media piece a combination of oil pastel and acrylic (which is my mediums of preference right now.) She was a difficult dog to do because her colors were very muted and almost washed out. I tried working timidly trying to get the variation of mottled grey in her coat, but I realized the painting was getting washed out. So I decided to turn up the volume a bit with some bolder color and big strokes. Welcome to my first blog! I am a dog artist and all around dog lover and nut! This is my most recent commission, Low Rider, a sweet girl who sadly had to be put to sleep this month. Her owner wanted to remember her with this portrait. She was found in FL at a Toll Booth! Check out for new work that I will add here or visit my main site at http://www.amberlowe.com !
